How do you make the connection between my genes and nutrition recommendations?

We use evidence-based research from over 1,000 high-impact clinical trials and studies of nutritional and health outcomes genomics to form our recommendations. From these scientific conclusions, we recommend the foods that have the highest amount of nutrients that your genotypes have shown to benefit from.

What is a genotype?

You have two copies of each gene, one from your mom and one from your dad. Your genotype refers to the two nucleotides (A, C, G, or T) found at the same location on each copy of a gene.

What is the process for providing my DNA information?

It’s simple. Upload your raw data from 23andMe, Ancestry, or My Heritage and in as little as 3 minutes, get your 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile

What nutritional insights will the report provide me?

Your 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile will provide insights into your recommended macronutrient (carbohydrates, protein and fat) intake level and micronutrient (vitamins and minerals) intake level. You also receive a lifetime membership to 20 Dishes, a customizable digital meal planner with shopping lists and prep-ahead guides so that you can incorporate the  foods that you would benefit from eating more of based on your genetic results.

Do you test for allergies or food sensitivities?

20 DNA does not provide any medical information or a diagnosis. We share information about sensitivities you may have to gluten and lactose, based on your genes.

I struggle with my weight, can 20 DNA help with this?

Because weight is influenced by a number of factors, 20 DNA cannot guarantee weight loss. We provide you with nutrition and food recommendations, based on your genes, to help you eat better for a healthier life

I’m a diabetic, can I still use 20 DNA’s product?

To ensure that science and your DNA data is the core of our product, your food recommendations are based on your genetic data and are not altered by any dietary plans you may currently follow. We encourage you to incorporate 20DNA’s product along with recommendations from your healthcare team.

How do I download my existing DNA data?
What file format should my data be in? How do I get my data in this format?

Your data should be in a text file format. Denoted by a .txt at the end of the file name. If your data downloads into a Zip folder, double click the Zip folder to view the Raw Data Text File. This will convert it to a .txt file.

I have genetic data that is not from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, or My Heritage can you use this to generate my report?

Data that is not from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, or My Heritage does not provide us with the information to generate a 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile because different genetics companies analyze different genetic variants.

What parameters have been put in place to protect and secure my DNA data?

We do not store any of your DNA information in our database. This means that once you obtain your 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile, your DNA data is immediately deleted.

What happens to my DNA after my report is generated?

Once you obtain your 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile, your DNA data is immediately deleted however you will still have access to your profile unless you chose to delete that as well.

What can I do to keep my account safe?

We ask you to be responsible for safeguarding your password and other authentication information you use with 20DNA

Is the existing genetic data upload secure?

Our upload is SSL encrypted keeping your file private and integral. You can learn more about SSL encryption here

How do you use my existing genetic data?

Your DNA is analyzed on what is called a microarray. These arrays measure hundreds of thousands of genetic variants. Companies then analyze the variants specific to the product that they are offering. At 20DNA, we analyze the variants that relate to nutrition.

What is 20Dishes and how do you make the meal plans?

Each week, your 20 Dishes menus will be built for you, from the foods that match best with your genes. We work with professionals to give you easy, delicious, and unique meals that both you and your genes will enjoy.

Do you account for food restrictions/preferences when curating meals?

When you access your menus, you will have the option to choose a menu that is found on you 20 DNA Diet and Nutrition Profile or from one of 7 diets including keto, gluten-free, vegetarian, AIP, lower-carb, lower-fat, or clean eating

What will I get in my report?

Your 20DNA report includes your results for important genetic variants related to nutrition, your recommended intake level of key macronutrients and micronutrients, as well as a list of foods. How many food recommendations will I receive in my report?
